Frankenstein is the name of the scientist, Victor Frankenstein, not the monster. In the book, the creature has no name.
The story was written by Mary Shelley, who came up with the idea at age 18 during a ghost story challenge in the summer of 1816.
The novel was first published in 1818 under the full title “Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.”
It is often called one of the first science fiction novels.
The flat head and neck bolts come from the 1931 Universal movie, with makeup by Jack Pierce. They are not in the book.
In the book, the creature is smart, teaches himself to read, and speaks very well.
